Build CSS Animations and Transitions Without Frameworks

CSS transitions and keyframe animations cover most of the motion you need in a modern interface - hover states, page transitions, micro-interactions - and they run with no JavaScript and no dependencies. Writing them by hand is error-prone though: timing functions are unintuitive, keyframes need precise property sequencing, and performance problems (animating the wrong property) only show up in production. This generator lets you design animations visually and export clean CSS.

You choose the property to animate (transform, opacity, color, and more), the duration, the easing, and the keyframes. The preview plays the animation so you can judge the feel, and the generated CSS uses only compositor-friendly properties where possible - which is what keeps animations at 60fps instead of janky.

Easing and performance in practice

For micro-interactions, ease-out (a fast start that settles) feels responsive. For entrances, ease-in-out reads natural. Avoid animating layout properties like width, height, top, left - they trigger reflow; use transform: scale/translate instead. The generator defaults to transform and opacity for a reason: they are the only properties the browser can animate without re-laying-out the page.

Common Questions

What can I animate with this tool?
Common properties including transform, opacity, color, and more, plus transitions and full keyframe animations. The output is plain CSS - no framework required.
Why does it default to transform and opacity?
Those are the properties browsers can animate on the compositor thread without reflow, which is what keeps animations smooth at 60fps. Animating width or top triggers layout and feels janky.
What timing function should I use?
ease-out for micro-interactions (responsive feel), ease-in-out for entrances (natural). The preview plays the timing so you can judge it directly.
Does the animation require JavaScript?
No. The exported CSS runs standalone in any modern browser. You paste it in and it works - no dependencies, no runtime cost beyond the animation itself.
Can I preview before copying?
Yes. The tool plays the animation live as you adjust duration, easing and keyframes, so you ship exactly what you see.
