Generate Google Authenticator Codes 100% Offline

TOTP - the time-based one-time password behind Google Authenticator, 1Password, and most 2FA systems - is designed to work without any network connection. The algorithm is deterministic: your shared secret plus the current 30-second window produces the code, and the same calculation on the server side verifies it. That means the codes can be generated on a device that is completely offline, which is exactly what this tool does.

You enter (or paste) the base32 secret from your service, and the tool computes the six-digit code locally in your browser using the standard RFC 6238 TOTP implementation. No secret is transmitted, no account is created, and nothing is stored after the page is closed. That is why it works in air-gapped environments, on locked-down corporate machines, and on flights - anywhere a normal 2FA app would still work, this does too, plus it never phones home.

Why offline 2FA matters

Server-side 2FA generators (the websites of the services themselves) create a single point of failure: if the service is down or rate-limiting you, you cannot log in. A local TOTP generator removes that dependency entirely. Security-conscious teams also use it as a second opinion when auditing which codes a service expects during incident response.

Common Questions

Does this tool work without internet?
Yes. TOTP is computed entirely in your browser from your base32 secret. It works fully offline, in air-gapped environments, and on machines without network access.
Is my secret sent to any server?
No. The secret never leaves your device, and nothing is stored after you close the page.
What is the secret I need to enter?
The base32 key shown when a service sets up 2FA for you (often in a QR code or a setup screen). Enter it exactly as shown, spaces ignored.
Why would I use this instead of the official app?
The official app needs to reach the service for some features and can be blocked on locked-down machines. This tool is a minimal, transparent, offline TOTP implementation - useful as a fallback when the normal path is unavailable.
Is TOTP the same as what Google Authenticator uses?
Yes. Both implement RFC 6238 time-based one-time passwords with the same 30-second windows and 6-digit codes, so the codes are interchangeable.
